Lapis Lazuli
Legends say blue lapis stones has been there as long as the mankind has existed. Afghanistan has been the oldest source of this mineral and still remains one of the main supplier, though today it is also found in US, Canada, Argentina & some other parts of the world.
Its name is derived from a Latin word, 'lapis' meaning ‘stone’ and a Persian word, 'Lazhuward' meaning ‘blue’. Typically this gemstone is a combination of Calcite & Lazurite & gold freckles of Pyrite. Lapis has been the most preferred gemstones for men’s jewelry after Black Onyx.
As its name suggest, it is blue in color and is often considered a symbol of royalty. Back in ancient Egypt, its use goes back to 4000 BC when it used to be one of the most expensive gemstones and its use is still prevalent in many parts of the world.
