Got the name from its origin Mount Vesuvius in Italy, where it was first found amongst the lava. Vesuvianite also known as ‘idocrase’ is derived from Greek words ‘idea’ meaning ‘likeness’ and ‘krasis’ meaning ‘mixture’ which is apt for this crystal since its a mixture of certain minerals.

This stone is available in colors green, yellowish tone & blue; semi transparent to translucent options, transparent ones being the most commonly used for jewelry. From the colors available, the most popular variety are the ones in light green which have very close resemblance to Jade and are known for their multiple healing properties.
